Design Tools

Tulmar's design engineering group utilizes 2D and 3D solid modeling software to design such diverse products as life preservers, airline evacuation training slides, inflatable shelter systems, tent adapters, seat cushions and custom stowage equipment for military vehicles.

Component Selection

Materials and components are selected to suit specific design criteria and tested in-house or certified by recognized testing laboratories to meet our design requirements.  Materials and components may be tested for flammability, fungus resistance, corrosion resistance, electrostatic discharge and other properties that are needed for the particular product application.

Design Validation

Extensive prototyping and design validation testing is carried out as part of our ISO 9001-2000 certified Design and Development process.   Some examples of design validation testing:

• Bursting pressure of our inflatable life preservers
• Strength of assembly on our tie-downs
• Effect of snow loading on our inflatable shelter systems
• Operational temperature range of our aviation life rafts
• Verification of sliding path on our evacuation training slides 

Certification Testing

Many Tulmar products undergo qualification testing to meet the requirements of international standards organizations such as UL and SOLAS or regulatory agencies such as FAA and Transport Canada.
