Essex and Tulmar Sign a Two-Year Exclusive Distribution and Support Agreement

August 12, 2025

Hawkesbury, ON – Tulmar Safety Systems, a global provider of engineered protection solutions for the aviation, defence, and civil-safety sectors, has signed an exclusive two-year reseller agreement with Essex Industries, Inc. The contract authorizes Tulmar to market, sell, and support Essex’s Emergency Passenger Oxygen System (EPOS®)—a self-contained smoke hood that delivers up to 60 minutes of aviator-grade oxygen during cabin emergencies—to the Canadian Department of National Defence (DND).

This agreement strengthens a long-standing collaboration: Tulmar already manufactures, supplies, and services the aviation-training version of Essex’s Protective Breathing Equipment (PBE) for airlines and training centers worldwide. Adding in-service EPOS units now gives defence and commercial customers an end-to-end solution that covers flight-crew training, operational deployment, and full aftermarket support.

Patrick Phillips, Vice-President, Business Development, Tulmar Safety Systems, said: “Because we already serve the aviation-training market with Essex PBE, and the Canadian DND with a broad portfolio of protective equipment, expanding to operational EPOS devices is a natural next step. This agreement streamlines procurement for military and commercial operators while ensuring world-class support through our Hawkesbury facility and global network.”

Under the agreement, Tulmar holds distribution rights for all EPOS models, assumes responsibility for regional inventory and operator training, and provides comprehensive maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services, leveraging Essex’s established train-the-trainer programs and technical resources.

As Tulmar and Essex move forward, clients can expect a smooth integration of EPOS into Tulmar’s existing support infrastructure, further advancing both companies shared mission of protecting the people who protect us.
