Hawkesbury, ON – Tulmar Safety Systems held a demonstration on Wednesday of the KOVA EV Fire Blanket, a Canadian-engineered and Canadian-made tool designed to support first responders in managing electric vehicle (EV) fires. Over thirty fire professionals and safety experts from across Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec attended the demonstration and learning event.

The demonstration was conducted with the support of the Hawkesbury Fire Department. Their team coordinated the burn setup, safety measures, and on-site operations. Their involvement allowed attendees to observe real-time vehicle fire behaviour and see the KOVA blanket in use in a controlled environment.

Built in Canada using high-temperature resistant materials, the KOVA EV Fire Blanket is sized for full coverage of all passenger vehicles on the road today. Designed for single-incident use, it provides a rapid and intuitive method for containing EV fires and reducing risk when water access is limited or immediate control is required. KOVA serves as a protective tool for people, vehicles, and surrounding infrastructure in the event of an EV fire. It is a tool designed to save time and water.

Ghislain Pigeon, Director of Fire Services, Champlain Township, noted the relevance of KOVA for EV fire response: “[KOVA] meets the needs of the fire department for this type of application, allowing us to limit damage to other exposed vehicles and buildings, while reducing risks to the environment and our personnel.” (translated from French).

The gathering allowed fire professionals and safety experts from Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec to discuss EV fire risks, update SOPs, and explore ways to enhance community protection.

Tulmar Safety Systems will continue to work with fire departments and municipalities. The company aims to provide hands-on demonstrations, technical support, and training resources. These offerings support agencies as they adapt SOPs for EV-related risks.
