The origins of Tulmar can be traced back to 1951 when RFD Canada was established in Granby, Quebec to perform repair and overhaul services on marine life rafts. The company was renamed Tul Safety Equipment Ltd and moved to Hawkesbury, Ontario in 1968. In Hawkesbury, Tul Safety established a design and engineering department to develop and manufacture inflatable survival equipment as well as protective covers and stowage equipment for the first generation of Light Armored Vehicles (LAVs). TUL XL aviation life rafts became standard equipment on Canada’s military air fleet.

Tulmar Safety Systems Inc.

Tulmar Safety Systems was incorporated on April 29 1992, with senior management and production personnel from the former Tul Safety.

The company extended its capabilities into repair & overhaul and manufacturing of inflatable safety equipment as well as the design and development of proprietary defence and aerospace inflatable equipment. Tulmar life rafts are in-service on both rotary and fixed-wing aircraft and we produce life preservers for all branches of service. Markets were expanded to include global airline training and public safety and emergency response for which Tulmar builds purposed-designed specialty equipment including evacuation training slides, ice-water rescue systems, inflatable shelters and tactical life preservers.

Today, Tulmar is a strategic supplier of engineered textiles and complex assembled products, delivered directly to government agencies, the Canadian Department of National Defence (DND) and through global vehicle and system prime contractors.

Tulmar Technical Services Inc.

Tulmar Technical Services’ was established in 2007 to provide custom management and operational services for aircraft cabin emergency evacuation training equipment. With locations across Canada, Tulmar Technical Services provides a complete maintenance management solution for Cabin Crew Training Centers.
